| To Our Students and Parents: |
With the current level of education costs, we have had a concern for the student who suffers a serious illness or accident and has to leave Rhode Island School of Design before the semester is completed. In many instances it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of the semester's costs.
We are pleased to advise you of an insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (T.R.P.), which will minimize the financial portion of the loss. This elective insurance plan provides coverage for Tuition, Fees, Room and Board charges. Accordingly, the costs insured for the 2013/2014 academic year are $55,204.
This Plan significantly extends and enhances the College's published refund policy. You are assured of a 100% refund throughout the term even after the College's own refund policy has expired. This is especially beneficial when you are forced to withdraw and then return for a later term. In effect, you will not have to pay to repeat lost education. The chart below illustrates how the T.R.P. complements our own refund schedule for tuition charges.
|
| | If the Withdrawal Occurs During | The College Refunds | The T.R.P. Refunds | Student Receives | | First Two Weeks | 80% | 20% | 100% | | Third Week | 60% | 40% | 100% | | Fourth Week | 40% | 60% | 100% | | Fifth Week | 20% | 80% | 100% | | Balance of Semester | 0% | 100% | 100% |
|
Note: Refer to the Catalogue of Degree Programs for College's refund share for Room & Board charges.
Note: For mental health withdrawals, the T.R.P. pays 75% of costs insured.
We are providing the Tuition Refund Plan as an option for students and parents. It is an inexpensive form of protection, and we urge that you carefully read the coverage section and consider the advantages. It is vital that those who wish to participate online submit the application before the opening date of College. Online applications cannot be accepted on or after opening day.
Our experience with withdrawals makes us enthusiastic supporters of this kind of protection. We encourage your participation.
Very truly yours,
