Kenyon College

To Our Students and Parents:
With the current level of education costs, we have a concern for the student who suffers a serious illness or accident and has to leave Kenyon before the semester is completed. In many instances it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of the semester's costs.

We are pleased to advise you of an insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (T.R.P.), which will minimize the financial portion of the loss.

This elective insurance plan provides coverage for tuition, board and room charges. Room rate coverage is restricted to the standard double occupancy fee. Adjustments in coverage are not made for variations in the actual dormitory living arrangement. Accordingly, the costs insured for the 2013/2014 academic year are $55,070.

This Plan significantly extends and enhances the College's published refund policy. Subject to policy conditions, you are assured of a 100% refund throughout the term, even after the College's refund period has expired, for a medical/physical withdrawal. This is especially beneficial when you are forced to withdraw and then return for a later term. In effect, you will not have to pay to repeat lost educational credits. The chart below illustrates how the Tuition Refund Plan complements our refund schedule for tuition, room and board for withdrawal due to medical/physical reasons.

Notes: For medical/mental health withdrawals, the T.R.P. pays 60% of costs insured.
For students on Federal financial aid, the refund policy per the Higher Education Amendments of 1998 calls for tuition to be pro-rated through 60% of the semester. Benefits available under the T.R.P. for medical withdrawal can be helpful in meeting your obligations.

We are providing the Tuition Refund Plan as an option for students and parents. It is vital that those who wish to participate online submit the application and premium before the opening date of College. Online applications cannot be accepted on or after opening day.

Sincerely yours,
