Fall 2015 Tuition Insurance Information

June 2015

Dear Wellesley Family,
I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying your summer festivities. I am writing to you today about an insurance benefit program that may be of interest to you.

A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. offers Wellesley students an insurance program called the Tuition Refund Plan. If a student withdraws during a semester due to a personal injury or illness, the Plan will provide for a refund of the Wellesley Comprehensive Fee (i.e., the cost of tuition, activity fee, room, and board) that has been paid by the family.

The Plan significantly extends the refund policy of Wellesley College, thereby alleviating your financial loss. Subscribers are assured of a ninety percent (90%) refund from Dewar throughout the semester to cover the portion of the Comprehensive Fee which the College does not refund (namely, your out-of-pocket payments toward the term bills). The money may also be used to repay any educational loan or grant which must be returned in the event that a student withdraws. This is especially beneficial if a student withdraws after several weeks of enrollment and returns in a future year to repeat the entire semester.

The standard cost of the Plan insures the Comprehensive Fee in full, however, your family can insure a lesser amount. Dewar provides a calculator on the application page that allows families to calculate the pro-rated cost of the Plan based on a customizable insured amount (usually the amount not covered by financial aid). Consider these examples for a dependent undergraduate living on campus:

Your expected out-of-pocket payments
(including any loans borrowed)
Cost of the Plan for your family
(Academic Year)
$40,000$360.00
$20,000$180.00
$10,000$90.00
$5,000$45.00
$1,000$9.00
The College does not necessarily endorse this or any other plan. I am providing this information because this insurance has been a helpful, affordable option for some of our families over the years. Depending on your concerns or circumstances, it may be beneficial to yours.

If you would like to enroll in the Plan, complete the application by August 31, 2015, the first day of classes. Dewar will not accept applications after this date.

If you have any questions about the Plan, please contact John M. Strain, Senior Vice President at Dewar. He may be reached by phone at (617) 774-1555.

Sincerely,

Scott Wallace-Juedes
Director
