July 2012
To Vanderbilt Students and Parents: |
With the level of education costs increasing, we have had a concern for the student who suffers a serious illness or accident and has to leave Vanderbilt for medical reasons before the semester is completed. In many instances it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of the semester's costs.
We are pleased to advise you of an insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (T.R.P.) offered by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., which will minimize the financial portion of the loss. This elective insurance plan provides coverage for tuition and housing charges. The tuition for academic year 2012/2013 will be $41,088 and the estimated housing charges will be $9,028.
This Plan significantly extends and enhances the University's published refund policy. Even after the University's policy has expired, you are assured of up to a 100% refund throughout the semester. This is especially beneficial when you are forced to withdraw and then return for a later semester, as you will not have to pay to repeat lost credit hours. The chart below illustrates how the Tuition Refund Plan complements our refund schedule for tuition charges.

We are pleased to offer the Tuition Refund Plan as an option for students and parents. It is an inexpensive form of protection, and we urge you to carefully read the coverage section concerning the Plan. Should you decide to participate online, it is vital that you submit your application before August 22, 2012. Online applications will not be accepted on or after this date. If you have questions about the Tuition Refund Plan, please contact Andrew Martinson with A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. at (617) 774-1555.
Sincerely,
John W. McDaniel
