To Parents, Guardians and Students:

Re: Tuition Refund Plan

Given the current level of education costs, we have had a concern for the student who suffers a serious illness or accident and must withdraw from Illinois Wesleyan University before the semester is completed. In many instances, this means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the financial loss of the semester's costs.

While we believe that our refund policy is fair, we also recognize that some families have a greater level of concern about the financial loss which may be incurred in a case such as this. We, therefore, are pleased to advise you of an insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (T.R.P.), which will minimize the financial portion of such a loss.

This elective insurance plan provides coverage for tuition, activity fee, and room and board charges. Room rate coverage is restricted to the standard multiple occupancy fee. Adjustments in coverage are not made for variations in the actual dormitory living arrangement. Accordingly, the costs insured for the 2012-13 academic year are $46,792 for on-campus students and $37,954 for off-campus students.

This plan complements Illinois Wesleyan's published refund policy. You are assured of a 75% refund throughout the term, even after Illinois Wesleyan's policy has expired. The maximum benefit available under the Plan is 75% of insured fees less any refund or credit due you from the College. This is especially beneficial when you are forced to withdraw and then return for a later term. The chart below illustrates how the Tuition Refund Plan complements our refund schedule for tuition. During the semester, proportionate board refunds are based on the number of weeks remaining.
