July 2012
Dear Parents and Students:
|
With the level of education costs increasing, we all share a concern for the student who suffers a serious illness or accident and has to leave the University before the semester is completed. In many instances it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of the semester's costs.
We are pleased to make you aware of an insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (TRP), which will minimize the financial portion of the loss. This elective insurance plan, administered by A.W.G. Dewar of Quincy, Massachusetts, provides coverage for Tuition, Room and Board charges in case the student is forced to withdraw from school due to a personal illness or accident.
This Plan significantly extends and enhances the University's published policy. You are assured of a 100% refund throughout the term (60% maximum benefit through TRP if the withdrawal is due to a mental health condition) even after the University's policy has expired. This is especially beneficial when you are forced to withdraw and then return for a later term. In effect, you will not have to pay to repeat lost credit hours. The chart below illustrates how the TRP complements our refund schedule for Tuition, Room and Board charges.
|
| Coverage Schedule | | If the Withdrawal Occurs During | University Refunds | The TRP Refunds | Student Receives | | First Week | 90% | 10% | 100% | | Second Week | 80% | 20% | 100% | | Third Week | 60% | 40% | 100% | | Fourth Week | 40% | 60% | 100% | | Fifth Week | 20% | 80% | 100% | | Balance of Semester | 0% | 100% | 100% |
|
Note: Per the University's Undergraduate Catalog, General and Special Fees are not refundable.
We are pleased to present the Tuition Refund Plan as an option for students and parents. We suggest that you carefully read the coverage section concerning the Plan. The cost of the Plan for the 2012-2013 academic year is detailed in the application section. It is vital that those who wish to participate online submit the application before the opening date of school. Questions regarding the Plan should be addressed to A.W.G. Dewar at (617) 774-1555.
Sincerely,
Raymond M. Bourdeau Bursar |
