|We are pleased to inform you Duke has arranged with A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. to offer a Tuition Refund Plan to our students to minimize the financial portion of losses incurred when a student suffers a serious illness or accident and has to leave Duke before the semester is completed. This elective insurance program provides significant coverage for tuition.
This insurance program extends and enhances the University's published refund policy. In cases of withdrawal due to an accident, illness or mental health condition as defined in the coverage, the plan assures up to a 75% refund throughout the term. This can be especially beneficial when a student is forced to withdraw and then return for a later term.
Please note that claims are based on 75% of insured charges minus any refund due from Duke University. The chart below illustrates how the Tuition Refund Plan complements Duke's own refund schedule for tuition:
|If the Withdrawal Occurs ||The University Refunds||The Dewar T.R.P. Refunds||Student Receives|
|Before classes begin||100%||0%||100%|
|Weeks 1 or 2||80%||0%||80%|
|Weeks 3, 4 or 5||60%||15%||75%|
|After week 6||0%||75%||75%|
|We are providing the Dewar Tuition Refund Plan as an option for students and families. Please read the coverage section carefully before enrolling. Those who wish to participate should submit their application by August 20, 2019. Applications cannot be accepted after the first day of classes.
Please contact Dewar directly at (617) 774-1555, if you have any questions regarding the Tuition Refund Plan.
