The University of Vermont

To University of Vermont Students and Parents:
With the current level of education costs, we are concerned for the student who suffers a serious illness or accident and has to leave the University before the semester is completed. In many instances it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of the semester's costs.

We are pleased to advise you that The University of Vermont has arranged to offer the Tuition Refund Plan (T.R.P.) to our students and parents to minimize the financial portion of the loss. This elective program provides coverage for tuition, comprehensive fee, room and board charges.

This Plan extends and enhances the University's published refund policy. In the event of withdrawal due to medical illness or accident, including mental health conditions, for which the student is hospitalized for two consecutive days, the Plan provides a benefit of a 100% refund throughout the term even after the University's own refund policy has expired. This is especially beneficial when you are forced to withdraw and then return for a later term. In effect, you will not have to pay to repeat lost education. The chart below illustrates how the Tuition Refund Plan complements our refund schedule for medical withdrawal for which the student is hospitalized:

If the Withdrawal OccursThe University Refunds:The T.R.P. Refunds:Student Receives:

During third week of classes50%50%100%
During fourth week of classes25%75%100%
After fourth week of classes0%100%100%

Note: For medical withdrawals in which the student is not hospitalized, the Tuition Refund Plan pays 60% of costs insured.

We are providing the Tuition Refund Plan as an option for students and parents and we strongly urge you to consider the benefits of participating. Those who wish to participate online must submit their application before August 26, 2013. Online applications cannot be accepted on or after this date.
