Dear SMU Students and Parents:

We would like to bring to your attention a tuition refund plan (T.R.P.), which is offered to Southern Methodist University students by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. This is a private insurance program that supplements the refund policy of SMU by ensuring the refund of one hundred percent of tuition, room, and board if a student withdraws due to illness or accident after the beginning of the academic term.

The chart below indicates how this program supplements the University's own undergraduate refund schedule for a typical semester should you withdraw due to illness or accident.

Prior to 1st Day of Term 100% 0% 100%
1st through 5th Day of Term 90% 10% 100%
6th through 10th Day of Term 50% 50% 100%
11th through 15th Day of Term 25% 75% 100%
16th through 20th Day of Term 10% 90% 100%
After 20th Day of Term 0% 100% 100%

Notes:   1. As indicated in the coverage section, T.R.P. refunds are smaller in the
                 case of withdrawal due to a psychological disorder.

             2. Please refer to the Financial Information Bulletin for the University's
                 refund policy on Room and Board charges.

Participation in the Tuition Refund Plan offered by A.W.G. Dewar is entirely optional, and the University's refund program is applicable whether or not you enroll in the T.R.P.

SMU does not endorse this or any other private tuition program, but we urge you to read the coverage section and consider the suitability of the T.R.P. for you. Should you decide to participate in the Dewar Plan online, you must submit your application and payment before the opening day of classes. Online applications cannot be accepted on or after that date.
