Dear Students and Parents: |
Given the substantial financial commitment that students and their families make to pay for an education from The Catholic University of America, we have become increasingly concerned about finding ways to help protect this investment. Of particular concern are those students who, through illness or accident, may be required to leave school during a semester, with the subsequent loss of time invested in studies, and also the loss of funds already invested in that semester's costs. The Catholic University of America is pleased to offer an insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (TRP) through A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., as a way of protecting that investment at a reasonable cost.
TRP is a private insurance program that supplements the refund policy at The Catholic University of America as published in the University Catalog. Subscribers are assured a refund, even though the University's own refund policy may have expired at the time of withdrawal. A full 100 percent TRP refund applies only to medical withdrawals. Withdrawals for psychological reasons are insured at 60% of the costs. Protect your investment! Costs covered by the TRP program include tuition, room, board and mandatory fees. (Medical insurance premiums and laboratory fees for courses are not included.)

Refunds of room and dining plan charges are handled by Housing Services. The rules are found in the Residence Hall and Dining Services Agreement. TRP provides a refund of the amount not refunded through the University's policy.
Participation in the Tuition Refund Plan is optional, and the University's refund schedule is applicable whether or not you enroll in the TRP. If you do not participate in the TRP, however, any refund is limited to the amounts allowed by the University's policy. Should you decide to participate in the TRP online, you must submit the application and payment before the first day of classes, August 31, 2009 (August 13, 2009 for the School of Law). Applications will not be accepted on or after these dates. For further information please call Dewar at (617) 774-1555.
Yours sincerely,
Leah R. Wolf Director of Student Accounts |
