Fall 2012
To students and parents: |
With the current level of education costs, we are concerned for a student who suffers a serious illness or accident and has to withdraw from all classes at Pacific Lutheran University before the semester is completed. In many cases it can mean not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of a semester's costs.
For this reason, we invite you to consider an elective insurance plan administered by A.W.G. Dewar in Quincy, Massachusetts called the Tuition Refund Plan. This plan protects the student's educational investment by reimbursing 100% of tuition, room and meal plan charges in case a student is forced to withdraw due to a serious personal illness or accident. In the case of withdrawal due to a psychological or emotional condition, the plan will reimburse 60% of costs insured in accordance with the terms outlined in the insurance contract.
This plan extends and enhances the University's 2012-2013 refund policy for medical withdrawals. Please review the coverage section for specific details. The charts below indicate how the Dewar plan supplements a student's refund. |

In 2012-2013, for students who withdraw for medical reasons with an unpaid balance on their student account at the time of withdrawal, Dewar will pay the proceeds of the claim to PLU for credit on the student's account. Benefits not required to settle an owing balance on an account will be refunded directly to the student. Room and meal plans are refunded on a pro-rated basis. The Dewar plan supplements the university refund as noted in the table above.
We are providing information about the A.W.G. Dewar plan as an option for PLU students. It is vital that those who wish to participate online submit the application and payment prior to the start of classes, September 4, 2012. Dewar will not accept applications on or after this date.
Questions regarding the Tuition Refund Plan should be directed to A.W.G. Dewar at (617) 774-1555. Questions regarding applications for medical withdrawal should be addressed to the Office of the Vice President for Student Life, 105 Administration Building, (253) 535-7191.
