All Claremont McKenna College Students and Parents:

With the current level of education costs, we are concerned for the student who suffers a serious illness or accident and has to leave the College before the semester is completed. In many instances, it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of the semester's costs.

In light of this possibility, we are pleased to make you aware of the Tuition Refund Plan (TRP). This elective Plan administered by A.W.G. Dewar protects your educational investment by reimbursing 100% of tuition, ASCMC fees, room and board charges in case your son or daughter is forced to withdraw from school due to a personal illness or accident. In case of withdrawal due to a mental health condition, 60% of these charges are covered.

This Plan significantly extends and enhances the College's published refund policy. You are assured of a refund throughout the semester even after our own refund policy has expired. The cost of this Plan for the 2013-14 academic year is $390 for on-campus students and $297 for off-campus students. The chart below illustrates how the TRP complements our own refund schedule in the case of physical illness or accident. The College currently prorates the costs up to the 60% point of the semester. After that point, a student is no longer eligible for refunds from the College. Room charges are not prorated by the College unless a new student occupant is immediately available.

Participation in the TRP offered by A.W.G. Dewar is entirely optional, and the College's refund program is applicable whether or not you enroll in the TRP. Claremont McKenna College does not endorse this or any other private tuition insurance program, but we urge you to read the coverage section and consider the suitability of the TRP for you. If you wish to subscribe to the Plan online, please submit the application prior to September 3, 2013 which is the first day of class. Online applications cannot be accepted on or after this date.

If you have questions about the TRP, please address them to Mr. Bradford Tufts at (617) 774-1555 or Mr. John Cruden at (415) 246-0738 of A.W.G. Dewar.

Sincerely,

Robin J. Aspinall
Vice President for Business and Administration and Treasurer
