Dear Students and Parents:
|Given the substantial financial commitment that students and their families make to pay for a Hofstra University education, it is increasingly important to protect your investment. Of particular concern are students who, due to illness or accident, may be required to withdraw from classes and leave school during a semester. In many instances, it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of funds already invested in a particular semester's costs. Hofstra University would like to make you aware of an optional insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (“TRP”), through A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., which can help minimize your investment loss.
The semester cost for the TRP is $127.00 for all Hofstra students.
TRP is a private program that supplements Hofstra University's tuition refund policy as published in the University Bulletin. Subscribers are eligible for a refund throughout the term, even when Hofstra University's own refund policy may have expired at the time of withdrawal. A 75 percent TRP refund applies only to covered physical medical withdrawals. Withdrawals for covered mental health reasons are insured at 60 percent of the costs. Costs covered by the TRP program include tuition only. Room, board, medical insurance premiums, laboratory fees and other miscellaneous fees and fines are not covered.

Participation in the Tuition Refund Plan is entirely optional. Please note this insurance plan is made available for your convenience at your option. Hofstra University is not associated with nor has received any benefit from A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. or Atlantic Specialty Insurance Company, but we urge you to read the coverage section concerning the Plan. Should you decide to participate online, you must submit the application and payment prior to your first day of classes. Applications will not be accepted on or after the start of the semester.
