RE: NYIT-Tuition Refund Plan for Medical Withdrawals

Given the substantial financial commitment that students and their families make to pay for an NYIT education, it is increasingly important to protect your investment. Of particular concern are students who, due to illness or accident, may require to withdraw from classes and leave school during a semester. In many instances, it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of funds already invested in a particular semester’s costs.

I am pleased to advise you of the New York Institute of Technology’s Tuition Refund Plan offered by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. This elective insurance plan provides coverage for tuition as well as NYIT housing (room and board costs if applicable) if a medical or mental health withdrawal occurs.

“TRP” is a private program that supplements NYIT’s tuition refund policy as published in the NYIT catalog. Subscribers are eligible for a refund throughout the term, even when NYIT’s own refund policy may have expired at the time of the withdrawal. Withdrawals for covered medical or mental health reasons are insured at either 100% or 60% of the costs depending on hospitalization.

A student who suffers a serious illness or accident and needs to withdraw from NYIT prior to the completion of the term may encounter several problems. In many instances, withdrawal from classes not only means the loss of time invested in studies, but also significant financial loss. This plan will help to minimize a student's financial portion of this loss.

While NYIT provides partial refunds for withdrawals, these refunds are limited and effective only when the student withdraws early in a term. The Tuition Refund Plan significantly extends and enhances NYIT’s published withdrawal policy. If a student withdraws because of injury/sickness or mental health reasons, the Tuition Refund Plan returns 100% or 60% of the insured term tuition/fees and NYIT housing costs and meal plans where applicable, less any refund or credit due you from the college when plan conditions are followed. This coverage does not apply if the student drops classes without completely withdrawing.

The Tuition Refund Plan is an inexpensive, entirely optional, voluntary form of insurance and I urge you to carefully consider the advantages this protection provides. To enroll online, simply complete the application and submit your payment.

Deadlines: Applications must be submitted before September 3, 2014. If your first day of classes is after September 3, 2014, please call Dewar directly to sign up.
