| Dear SMU Students and Parents: |
We would like to bring to your attention a tuition refund plan (T.R.P.), which is offered to Southern Methodist University students by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. This is a private insurance program that supplements the refund policy of SMU by ensuring the refund of one hundred percent of tuition, room, and board if a student withdraws due to illness or accident after the beginning of the academic term.
The chart below indicates how this program supplements the University's own refund schedule for a typical term should you withdraw due to illness or accident. |
| Coverage Schedule | | If the Withdrawal Occurs On Or Before: | The University Refunds: | The T.R.P. Refunds: | The Student Receives: | | Payment Due Date | 100% | 0% | 100% | After Payment Due Date, Before 1st Day of Class | 95% | 0% | 95% | | 5th Day of Class | 90% | 10% | 100% | | 6th Day of Class | 50% | 50% | 100% | | 11th Day of Class | 25% | 75% | 100% | | 16th Day of Class | 10% | 90% | 100% | | Balance of Semester | 0% | 100% | 100% |
|
Notes: 1. As indicated in the coverage section, T.R.P. refunds are smaller in the case of withdrawal due to a psychological disorder.
2. Please refer to the Financial Information Bulletin for the University's refund policy on Room and Board charges.
Participation in the Tuition Refund Plan offered by A.W.G. Dewar is entirely optional, and the University's refund program is applicable whether or not you enroll in the T.R.P.
SMU does not endorse this or any other private tuition program, but we urge you to read the coverage section and consider the suitability of the T.R.P. for you. Should you decide to participate in the Dewar Plan online, you must submit your application and payment before the opening day of classes, August 26, 2009. Online applications cannot be accepted on or after that date.
Contact Dewar directly, (617) 774-1555, if you have questions regarding the Tuition Refund Plan.
Sincerely,
Pat Woods University Bursar and Executive Director of Enrollment Services |
