Washington and Lee University - Undergraduates

July 15, 2015

To Our Students and Families:
With the level of education costs increasing, we have had a concern for the student who suffers a serious illness or accident and has to leave Washington and Lee University before the semester is completed. In many instances, it means not only the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of the semester's costs.

We are pleased to advise you of an insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (T.R.P.), which will minimize the financial portion of the loss. This elective insurance plan provides coverage for Tuition, Mandatory Fees and Room and Board charges. The cost insured for the 2015/2016 academic year is approximately $58,517.

This Plan significantly extends and enhances the University's published refund policy. You are assured of up to a 100% refund throughout the term even after the University's own refund policy has expired. This is especially beneficial when you are forced to withdraw and then return for a later term. In effect, you will not have to pay to repeat lost education. Here is an illustration of how the Tuition Refund Plan complements our refund amount.

Note: Refer to the Refund section of the official catalogue for a complete description of the refund policy on Room and Board charges.

We are providing the Tuition Refund Plan as an option for students and parents. It is an inexpensive form of protection and we urge that you carefully read the coverage section and consider it for your circumstances. It is vital that those who wish to participate online submit the application before the opening date of the Fall semester. Online applications cannot be accepted on or after this date.
